I have a Ford 860. I have read enough about ROPs that I am convinced I need one. I intend to pick one up his summer. I’m also in the process of planning and placing material order for a barn. I’ve read posts where guys built a barn only to find out the door was just an inch or so shorter than what they needed to get their tractor in the barn. I would like to avoid that.

How tall do I need to make the barn door to get my 860 and ROPs through it? Can I get by with a 8 foot door, or do I need a 9 or 10 foot door? Any help on how much clearance I will need will be greatly appreciated.

How tall are you planning the ceilings? 12 foot ceiling allows above ground lift installation, and they are getting pretty cheap to buy $1695 for a 9000 lb two post(new).I'd go with a 12 ft door if possible, when it comes to barns and shops 10 years or so has a way of making you say "Boy I sure wish I had built that bigger". Dale, Like Old I'd go 10x10 at least. This is what mine is and sometimes I wish it were wider. And like Old said you may get a different tractor, Like an M H or 900 series. Something with upright exhaust and 8 foot isn't tall enough. John

I'd go with a 10 footer even if you don't need it. I wish I had when I built my shed but at the time 8 was enough but now I have a baler that has to sit out side because of it. I say think ahead in the future you may get some thing tall. I even had to cut down the exhaust on a Farmall I got this summer to get it in the shed. Hope this helps. With your 860 8 will probably be enough though

I plan on having another pole barn built and it will have 10" ceilings with a lean-to built on the back to park my implements. I hope that will be enough as I only have my 960 Ford to bring in for maintenance and other work. It will stay parked outside under the lean-to

The cheapest cost per square foot is to build a barn with 16 foot side walls,14'x 14' rollup doors minimum, and the biggest sheds you can afford off the barn sides. Then when you need to get a truck or large tractor inside for work or storage there won't be any second guessing. Who knows, you may fall in love with a BIG BUD tractor. Also steer clear of those $2000, 9000 lb lifts from overseas, unless you have a deathwish and good insurance. Powdercoat can cover a piece of junk, and you'll pay for it in the long run.
