I have a 1979 Ford 3600 diesel tractor. I think it is overheating and when i let it run for about 30 minutes or so it heats up. When i decided to flush the radiator i put super-flush in it. When i drained it after 30 minutes the water in the block was very hot, the water in the radiator was still cool/cold.....is my thermostat stuck or what is going on? Thanks for you help!!

I have a 3500. All I did to mine was replace the water hoses. The top hose was colapsing. I do have a quistion. This tractor went with this place I bought. Can you tell me what years the 3500 was produced? Also it has a front end loader and heavy duty scraper, all in fine shape. What could it be worth? Thank You. James Lentz

sound like the thermostat, Try starting it up with out the rad. cap and watch in the rad. to see if the water ever starts to move around if it doesn't pull the thermostat and replace. hope this helps

Thanks, helps big time..... I thought i had remembered you could do that but I had read something about having to have pressure to circulate....I think I was reading about something else at the time.

Nope water will not start circulating.....oh well looks like a thermostat replacement job. Any idea on a scale of 1 - 10 how hard this will be on a Ford Model 3600? Thanks again!!

Thermostat should not be a bad job. You should be able to swing the battery out, take the upper rad hose off, and then just take the thermostat housing off. Just two bolts. Clean it up, put a little silicon on the housing to stick the gasket in place, then the new gasket, and new thermostat and put in place. Just make sure it centers and fits properly. Taking the hood off is not much pleasure, unless the muffler comes off easy. That's wishful thinking. Doesn't hurt to change the rad hoses while you have everything drained out, unless they are in good cond. Good luck.

I can only guess, but if its like my 801 it will not be much fun. May be easyer to pull the hood, but again I'm just guessing. I haven't ever work on one like yours but all engines work the same so trouble shooting is just about the same with them all. Hope this helps a little more
