Hello

I have an 860 that won't start. I have converted it to 12v and the electronic ignition from Genesee (which works great). Has ran fine like this for over a year. I screwed up and left the key on last week and now I have no spark. I have 12v @ the coil, but no spark at the coil.
1. How do I check the coil? I would very briefly ground out the - side of the coil expecting to see a spark with none showing.
2. Could the electronic module be bad from having 12v applied to it for such a long time.
3. I am using a non resistor coil. Somewhere I think that I should have use a resistor type. am I wrong on this?

Thanks for any help

I have the same setup that you seem to have. I used the Genesee kit and included the electronic ignition. If I remember right, the coil should ohm out at about 3, but I would think the easiest thing to do, would be to call Genesee and ask. Them guys know their stuff and in my opinion, they are the best.

John, Since you have electronic ignition the good news is, you did not burn your points! You should be able to measure the resistance across the coil: primary ~1 ohm, secondary ~4000-7000 ohm.

Yes by grounding the distributor side of the coil you should see spark from the high voltage lead off of the coil.
