Looking at a Ford 4100 tractor I don't know the year of it. My questions are what is the pto hp., years they were built, any chronic problems with them, and value. the fenders have the squared off look. This tractor has about 1 year or less left on the rear tires and the front tires look to be in good shape. All of the sheet metal appears straight. I have not heard it run yet and don't really know the value of them. I wanted it to mow (sycle bar) and rake and move 5X6 round bales in a pinch on the bakc with forks.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time

Russ

The 4100 was manufactured from 1975-1981. ( I own a 1978). The Pto hp is around 45. I believe they were only made with a 3 cyl 183 cid diesel engine.
It should have the 8/2 transmission and have independent pto. They are a very good tractor like most of the 3 cylinder fords.

I didn't dig deep enough. The 4000 I described is a model 4100 all purpose. The 4100 Ed described has square fenders and the lightweight front axle.

The only information I can offer is from a book. They were made from 1965 to 1975. The 1965-1968 tractors had a two-piece grill, louvres on the side of the hood and 47 PTO Hp. The 1968-1975 tractors had a one-piece grill, no louvres and 52 PTO Hp. Gas and diesel Hp is nearly identical.

Thanks G.H., just wondering the title of that book and where I might get one.

The book I like is "A Guide to Ford, Fordson and New Holland Tractors 1907-1999" by Larry Gay, published by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, ASAE, $16. The Ford books by Leffingwell, Pripps and others are jerky and disorganized. $40 to $50 Ford tractor books are too rich for my blood and interest level. Checked the ASAE store today, wasn't working , did a search and even Amazon didn't have it. Didn't like the one online store that had the book because they didn't have a decent description of the book. I e-mailed the ASAE about availability, when they respond I'll post the information. My book had poor binding and the pages fell out, which may have something to do with it.

Nobody says anything bad about the 4000, period. The one and only criticism is about the front axle of the SU, Special Utility, I think it's model 4140. It has the adjustable axle that looks like the older 4-cylinder tractors. Evidently it's too small and weak for the power and size of the 4000.
