Did I read here that the negative post should be wired to the distributor? Thought I read it last week moments before I left town. I checked my Jubilee and 801 and both are wired Postive post to the distributor. Both start, run perfectly. Did I read that you should wire negative to distributor or expect faster burning of the points? Can find nothing in owner's manuals or IT manual. What's up? Thanks, Mike-Iowa

Hi Mike...You probably saw the coil polarity issue raised in the posts to Tommy about his 6 to 12 volt conversion. I wanted to add one thing to Cj's answer. An engine will run with the coil polarity reversed. However the spark output will be low. This is easily demonstrated on a scope, but if the available spark is sufficient, no symptoms will be evident.

Negative would be connected to the dist in a neg ground system and pos to dist in a pos ground ground system. The points ground the primary winding of the coil so the ground and the polarity should match. A lot of coils do not have the primary winding grounded to the case of the coil so they CAn operate reversed. Should not be but can.Like lots of things in life!
