Recently bought an 841. Leaky fuel shut off will be replaced tomorrow with a new one. What sticky stuff can I use to hold the gasket in place while I tighten it up? This forum and my own experience indicate these '01 fuel shut-offs often are leaky. What's the deal? Could a I put a Jubilee replacement tank on and add an additional sediment bowl? Thanks, Mike-Iowa (3fords!!!)

I just did this job a couple of weeks ago. My 1961 Ford 801 uses the "quick shutoff" type with a lever that you flip in to shut the fuel supply off. I had to remove my muffler and stack to get at the fuel line. The "O" ring was good, so I reused it. The fuel line and shutoff valve were full of crud, and I needed an air compressor to get it out of them.

It's not too bad a job if your muffler ain't rusted on. I've seen in the archives here where someone has dismantled the shutoff valve and fixed the internal seal. Mine didn't leak externally, but wouldn't completely shut off fuel to carb. After removing sludge, it now works properly.

Now if I just had a wrench 2-inches long and the strength of an ox, I could get the fuel line off and then remove the fuel shut-off valve. May have to remove the muffler to get to it..and tailpipe cause it is all rusted together. And it is mighty cold in the shed on the Iowa-Minn line! Thanks anyway for your input

Sometimes, a small dab of grease will secure the ""O" ring or gasket to the part. The "O" ring or gasket is made to be compatible with gasoline so should not be affected by the grease. Later

First off, I must confess I don't have a whole lot of experience in this area. Now then, a quick peek at my parts book here shows an o-ring where the fuel valve mates to the tank. Regardless of whether it uses a gasket or an o-ring, I guess I don't understand why it would be so hard to keep the thing in place while the fuel valve is being installed. Simply place the gasket or o-ring in its position on the valve and then install both as an assembly. It looks simple to me, but I guess there must be more to it??
