Bern- I stumbled onto a Ford-Onan generator built for the Civil Defense that's for sale. Very little use in 40 years. It runs good. Always been inside with CD; then Iowa fire dept. But I haven't seen it. Wonder if the 4-cylinder engine would fit in Jubilee through 901. The seller gave this over the phone..... Type 4-9 1180 F2 8AR. I'm wondering if this is a 134 or 172 or some kind of 190 cu. in. that the local NH dealer says was also made. Can you help me with this. Thanks Mike-Iowa

I wouldn't bet on it, but I really can't say for sure, as those numbers don't ring a bell with me. I'll print them out and run it past the parts guys at the store tomorrow and see what kind of an answer I can get out of them.

Thank you Bern. This can be bought for $1,250 which isn't bad if the motor is really good. I look forward to hearing what your parts man finds. Thanks again. Mike

Mike, I asked our two experienced parts guys (Mike and Mike, by the way!) if they recognized the numbers. Neither one could, although one said that it could well be very similar to the type of engine you are thinking about, since those type of industrial Ford engines were used in many different applications.

Sounds like you're gonna have to run over and take a peek at it for yourself, or else ask the owner if he can get some casting numbers off of the block that someone might recognize.
