The fuel tank on my 1951 TED-20 is leaking.

I am looking for a replacement tank -preferably a dual tank like the original.

I emailed my usual dealer, but they didn't reply; I guess they don't have one. Any ideas where (in Australia, specifically Victoria) I can pick up one? Used or new is OK.

I suppose I could try to repair it, but it is leaking a lot near the front bolt hole and also both caps leak around the thread.

$350 - that is expensive!! Think my replacement TEA20 tank was less than $200.

Don't know why you'd have a cut out at both ends.

Some in the US have posted here about a fuel tank sealing product you pour into the fuel tank, spread around and let dry and seal.

Another thought may be to have a welding shop, experienced in repairing fuel tanks, replace the bottom plates in both tanks, although that could end up being almost as expensive as a new tank.

I guess any repair will only be a relatively short term solution? Any second hand 50 year old tank you find will probably be not much better than your own?

I'm sure that picture of the dual chamber Sparex tank for the TED20 shows the back end of the tank (I think the smaller petrol compartment goes to the rear) and the cut away is at the other end, out of sight.

Yes that's right but my tank has the cut at both ends for some reason, so I'm wondering whether this one has none at all. Anyway, the price is $350 ish, so I will try to find a second-hand replacement before committing to that.

The Sparex part number for the tank that you need is S42414. They may have to order it for you as there are not many TED's down your way, they are mostly TEA's with the single tank.If you have problems with it, email me..John

OK. I'm with you now. My BareCo replacement fuel tank has a cut out at the front lower flange to accommodate the thermostat housing.

I'm sure that picture of the dual chamber Sparex tank for the TED20 shows the back end of the tank (I think the smaller petrol compartment goes to the rear) and the cut away is at the other end, out of sight.

You could contact Sparex and ask them:

Thanks Bob!

I'm enquiring about the price at the moment.

That picture does not show the little cut-out on the edge of the tank where the water inlet pipe slots into. I know we are looking from the front view, but my old tank has the cutout on both edges.

Does the TEA20 have the same cutout?
