Does anyone know of site that would have a wiring diagram to install a ampmeter on a TEA 2085 ,this way I will know if the generator is charging correctly.Any info on testing a Lucas Generator would also be helpfull.

Fit a voltmeter across the terminals of the Generator and start the engine, rev the engine SLIGHTLY and it should show 12volts at fairly low revs, if the voltage fluctuates or doesn't reach 12 volts then the Generator should be checked.
To fit an ammeter to your tractor, it should be fitted in the cable between the starter switch terminal (the one with the lead from the battery on top of the Clutch Housing below the battery) and the "A" terminal on the Regulator. If you need the wiring diagram, just email me at:- fergusontractors@tiscali.co.uk
tell me what you need and I will send it...John

Here is a very useful link on Amp Meter installation and wiring diagram. This example is for a Pos (+) Earth MGA which is almost identical to the TEA20 installation.

Auto Amp Meter.

Hope that helps!

Its not complex.

There should at most two wires on the ungrounded battery post. One going to the starter solenoid, the other to the rest of the wiring. That second wire will be smaller probably not over 10 gauge. It may be connected to the solenoid post with the battery wire. Remove that small wire from the battery connection. Connect it to the ammeter + terminal if negative grounded. Connect a new wire at least 10 gauge from the other ammeter post to where that wire was removed. Turn on the lights. The ammeter should deflect negitive. Crank it up and the generator should deflect it positive, then it should taper off to zero after running a while when the battery is fully charged.
