Found a bolt lying on the ground the other day that look familiar. One of the arms on the 3 point is dangling loose now. The bolt I'm wondering, goes thru the differential or is it screwed in, or was it a stud? Please don't say I need to disaseble the diff.

you already know you must pull the trumpet that's no big thing and that bolt is special so make sure you replace it with the right one BUT I'll bet the hole in the trumpet is wore out and that is a big deal see a lot of that in the shop DO not weld it in. i get the replacement pins from Tisco also this site might have them also look under parts at the left

I inspected the hole in the trumpet and it is indeed worn out. Appears as though the stud was moving around in it's hole and made the hole diameter change. Thanks for the input guys. I'll try and see if I can order the part. I see this web site sells one, but not sure if it is a fit. I understand from the posts the part is not interchangeable.

If it"s the one that the lift arm pivots around at the bottom of the differnential case, you"ll have to remove the axle "trumpets" to get to it.

Oh boy, just did a search for a trumpet picture and I see what you are talking about now. Looks straight forward, most likely the stud comes in from the inside and pokes out. Most likely I should replace some seals or other parts while I'm in their. Any specific parts you suggest?

I think the stud goes in from the outside and the nut goes on from the inside. Never had to do one so I don"t know for sure. I"d replace the axle seal while I was at it and check the brakes since that all comes off.

Thanks Jerry, that is the one I'm refering to. Next stop is a good service manual. Would those happen to be external plates located around the stud?

From your description you have one of the early axles and those plates are seperate from the main housing. You should remove them and fit new gaskets. You may have to get that early type pin made, I have only seen the late type one for sale and they don't interchange....John
