TEA20 -- Engine Bore Size

I have a 1955 TEA20 that I need to put a new head gasket on. I was wondering what year they changed from an 80mm (I think that's right) to 85mm bore on the Standard engines in the TEA20's. I'd like to figure that out and order a new gasket before I get too far into taking things apart.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Dan, but I'm already working through the local NAPA store. They had gaskets, just needed to know the bore.

By the way, might you have a set of clamshell fenders for a late styled John Deere A? I've been looking for a new pair, and have been pricing them out from different outfits.

Again, thanks for offering.

Hello in Alberta,

They changed from 80 to 85 mm around serial number 175-176000 I think. And that was in around 1950 I think. Now I am taking this out of my head, as it is late in Norway now and I refuse to look in any book. But anyway, in 1955, if the engine is original, you have a 85 mm engine. There is no doubt about that.
I have a TED 20, from 1949, tractor number 113xxx, and that has a 80 mm engine.

I could say more about this, but I am sure someone will fill in my gaps with accurate facts while I am sleeping tonight.

But, you can be safe and order parts for an 85 mm engine if you know for sure that the engine is what came with the tractor.

Best regards, Bill

Thanks Bill, Jim! I'm about 99% sure it's the original engine. By the looks of it, the whole machine hasn't seen much work.

It's good to hear from people around the world. Makes it seem a whole lot smaller! :-)

Change occured at 172,598, which occured in 1951. The 85 mm head gasket works in either case anyway....
