I would deal with Sam again. I bought a tractor from him and after it was delivered I saw it had a welded block. The ad did not mention that and I called. We reached a fair resolution; an honest mistake with a honest and fair correction, can't get any better than that.

I sold Sam an old Ford Fire Truck about a year ago. Was a pleasure to hang out with and talk old tractors and trucks.

I agree with everyone else, I have not had the pleasure to meet Sam face to face, but have sold him things here on the classifieds and he has always been good, and a great gentleman to talk to on the phone.

I hope I have the pleasure of going to his place sometime

I disagree. I bought a narrow front end for a farmall H. it tokk almost two months to get here. After he promised me a complete nfe I recieved just the bottom half. If he is good than she should have quoted me a higher price for the entire thing. Beware of him. You get half of what he says you get and you may wait up to two months to get!

He had a 430 jD advertised a while back on Yt.
I called him and eventually he told me it didn't run.Funny he didn't put that in his add.If he was honest i guess no one would call.He kept saying "It shouldn't take much to get it running".I said, then why don't you get it running and call me back.

You're condemning a man for what his ad DIDN'T say??
You said that eventually he told you...
How long did it take to ask if/how it ran, for crying out loud..??
Any seller (of ANYTHING) knows that you accentuate the positive but are honest about the negative... You may/may not like that but it's the way the world works.
His ad didn't say that it ran fine when, in reality, it didn't... did it?
That is far more than I can say about some others!

In the future, perhaps you could try asking a few questions like these:
Does it run?
Is it stuck?
Is it complete?
How is the tin, tires, paint??
etc...

Sheesh..

If he was honest you wouldn't need to ask most of those questions, you obiovusly are not either.

My favorite wife and I visited with Sam this last Saturday.

We consider it a mini-vacation whenever we go see him.

Make sure you call him in advance to make sure that he will be at home.

He always gives us the "grand tour" and gives the complete history of any piece that we may have a question about.

Sam has always described his items to me as they really are.

He will also provide you with as many photos of the item that you may want to see.

This allows you to see the item before you make the trip to inspect it.

Sam is a very "sharp" business man and is truly interested in anyone that has an interest in "saving" antique items from the scrap yard.

I have met others in a "wide" circle of East Texas that know Sam and they have had good dealings with him.

If you are a "red" tractor lover, Sam is the man to deal with.

Thankfully he also is on the lookout for whatever we "green" tractor lovers may need.

This weekend we bought a JD delivery trailer and a JD rotary hoe.

Hope this helps.

I've known Sam for some 10 years and I have nothing but good things to say about him. He has always been very honest and forthright both in my dealings with him as well as others that I have referred to him. If he tells you something, you can always believe it. In addition - if you ask him a question about a piece of equipment, he won't just tell you the way he THINKS it is... He will check it out specifically before answering.
Long story - short... Sam is a good Man.
