Kim, What can the average joe do about these scammer issues? One would enjoy buying something prized (to me at least) without issues? From what i've been rading in the feedback column EVERYBODY seems to get accused of 1 thing or another. Ads that look like they are from a dealer, relisted every other day, and take away from the good guys who i would hope are much more honest. the dealers are nice for the variety but from what i'm reading there are more scammers than honest dealers out there.

Is there anything you or anybody else can do about this? i love this forum, but im finding fears and no comraderies as a group on this issue and many others. I was under the impression that the antique tractor and implement guys were there to enjoy and show an older, yer better way of life? or is it all for the money?????

Well, first of all, each item in the regular classifieds page and the photo ad page has a "Report This" feature. If someone sees an ad that may possibly be a scam, they only need to click on that. In the regular classified ads it is a little red asterisk to the right of each ad. In the Photo Ads, you'll see a text link that says "Report This Item".

People ARE using these, and we ARE deleting scams and spam as soon as they are discovered. This community-oriented reporting mechanism has really kept the scams down to a minimum.

This feedback forum helps too. You can read good and bad about various transactions.

IMPORTANT to remember also is to keep this all in the proper perspective. By that I mean the following:

At this moment there are 5249 items for sale in the classified and photo ads combined. The oldest ad is 4 weeks, so we have approximately 1312 new ads PER WEEK. With that in mind, note that there are only 2 complaints per week in this Feedback Forum. Even if some complaints go unreported, this is still a small percentage.

The bottom line is that most buyers and sellers are good people. No, they are exceptional people. But yes there are a few bad apples but it is up to you as an individual, and others too, to keep their wits about them when purchasing an item site unseen. Ask the right questions, expect good answers, see it in person if possible, and if something seems fishy it probably is.

As always, we welcome suggestions from the YT community to help make purchasing items through the classifieds a worthwhile experience. We feel the classified ads and the forums are some of the most important and supportive tools we can offer the antique tractor world.

Thanks for your comments, and remember your suggestions are always welcome.

Kim

Hi Kim, I'm sure photo ad # 159424 is a scam. He wants all the payment & shipping to only go thru YT. I tried the fraud report option at the bottom of the listing, and it only takes you in a circle. Please advise how to handle. Thanks.
