The TISCO carb repair kit I bought for my '43 H has a 3/8" long graphite cylinder for packing around the fuel adjusting needle. The old packing was a felt washer about 1/8" thick. The bore in the carb bowl is not much longer than the new graphite, so the brass fitting holding the F.A.needle can't seat with the graphite installed. Should I reinstall the felt, cut down the graphite to 1/8", or??? Thanks much!!!

I did the carb on my '43H last month and ran into the same problem. I had carefully bead blasted the housing, so I was SURE I had removed all the old packing. I finally decided to try to cut the graphite cylinder because I knew if it didn't work, I could always get the string packing. I cut a little less than half away and then carved it down to make the angle. It worked perfect! The carb adjusted right and the tractor runs very well.

I had mine bead blasted too, so I had the same thought. Looked so pretty, I kind of hated to paint it. Thanks, Paul.

did my H carb a month ago and know what you mean. be sure you have all the old packing out , it was hard to get out even after I realized it was packing, after that I was able to seat the threads with the new packing. speed bump

I was wondering if there were two different bores for different packing, one deep for the graphite, one shallow for felt?? Whoever rebuilt this one used the felt and it sure looks like casting at the bottom?? Thanks, Speedbump!

Great site! You guys have all been a tremendous help to me getting the H running again. And it was a comfort to me (but not my wife) to find out that one tractor/acre is standard. One down, 42 to go!

Just aquired a tractor too. When opening up the carb for first time I bought no gaskets or kit. When it was reassembled I used plumbing graphite packing string. three wraps did the trick. Since then A kit was purchesed and I found the same thing as you. I wrapped another length of plumber packing and again ok. Good luck. P.s. my wife does not know of my unit yet and there is not security for name use so dont e-mail back, but do try this trick. Chris

Thanks, Chris. I'll give it a try. I think if I keep buying NF H's and park them at different locations in the barn, she'll think they're the same one. I can probably sneak in an M.

You might could sneak in a C or Super C NFE and just tell her your H shrunk when you washed it...BB

Hmmm.I can get both and with the pending M, that's 39 acres/tractors left! But I'm rapidly running out of barn corners and I can't park 'em next to each other!
