I'm to the point of putting my tires back on the tractor, but first I need new rubber. I checked with dealers in my town and was in shock at the quotes I received, almost $1,000.00 and then I still needed to sandblast and paint the rims!

I call a Les Schwab tire center in a neighboring town and was pleased with their prices and service. I can get Firestone tires (9.5 x 24 & 400 x 15) for under $750.00 (very close to Miller Tire's prices, but without the shipping cost). The really cool thing I learned is that for an additional $31.00 a rim, they will sandblast and powder coat my rims. I haven't seen the color chart yet, but they said that their silver color will probably be a close match to the factory galvanized coating.

Greg, too bad you are not closer, I could sell you all 4 tires and tubes for about $575.00, but shipping from Illinois would be a killer, that would be 2 Firestones on back and 2 Goodyear tri-ribs for front(supplier is out of Firestone). Tires are getting hard to get, so don't think too long or you will be out of luck. Harvest King tires are a little cheaper, but a good tire from what I have been told.

In early April I bought a pair of 11.2x24 Firestone field and road 4 ply for $200/tire. I remove the tires from the rim and he mounts the new tires. Marv

Between $750 and $1000 sounds right to me for 4 tires and 4 tubes, installed. Did you ask if that was "on the rim and out the door"? My dealer likes to dismount/remount the rears with the rims on the tractor. Dave

Yes, that's out the door cleaned, painted, and mounted.

These are small tires, so it probably doesn't make much difference.

Personally, I'd rather have the bigger tires on the tractor, myself. After wrestling two 13.6x38 tires off their rims with no tractor attached, it's definitely easier with 3+ tons of mass holding the rim in place so you can get some leverage.

Greg: Seems like an exorbinent price even at $750. It's only ten years ago I bought the same thing for under $450. I suppose the rim work is worth something. I guess I best go and back my tractor tires in out of the ultra violet rays.

Hugh,

I agree, but there's nothing else to do in my neck of the woods. I'm going to start parking all of my tractors out of the sun!

I paid around $475 for a set of the very same tires mounted and this was around last Thanksgiving. I was pretty happy. For $1000 I'd be expecting some rear rubber for my 450 or 560.

Still, the local tire guy is the way to go.
