After spending 3 1/2 months and more money than I'm gonna admit to, I haul this old tractor out to the farm. Just simply nothing else left to fix; nothing left to do.

Roll it down off the trailer, hook it up to the harrow and am in the process of knocking down road apples in the pasture. Ran for 10 minutes and stopped dead in it's tracks. Won't re-start..... ..... .

Theives had helped themselves to a tankful of fuel..... ..... ..... .Again. :>(

Hey Allan, is that part of your rockin' chair bolted on there?? Just kiddin' buddy. Keep your chin and the good work - up!!

After reading the other responses and having some personal experience it seems that the best thing a guy can do is shed the donor vehicle under heavy lock and key or if it must stay outside leave as little fuel as possible in it and hope like he!! all they want/need is fuel. Doing anything else might bring on other retribution in tjhe form of vandalism or in the case of defending your property - fines, lawsuits and jail time. Sad, sad state of affairs we are in nowadays.

Park em up closer to the house, get a dog, tie it to the M with a 20 ft cable. If they run into the dog, and it warns em off,, and if its a good dog, they better hope the cable dont come unhooked!!! Dont know if they make locking gas caps, of course if they want it bad enough,, hope they dont tear things up too bad,,,, Id fill it up with diesil and leave it sit out for a week,,, keep an eye out,,, just like they said,, see who's sitting along side of the road sometime,,,,,

Allan
My Dad had the same problem on the farm back in the early 90s, seemed some local boys were stealing the gas out of the farm truck at night. So dad took 3 bic razor blades apart and super glued the blades to the rim of the gas cap. 2 days later blood on the ground by the truck cap still on. Saw John at the barber shop with badage on his hand he wouldnt even talk to us. last time anybody stole gas too. Jay

The Harbor Freight video camera works pretty good. Hook up to VCR and set to tape only during likely times. Night vision isn't too bad either. Here in the city I'd have a problem tracking down a certain vehicle but out in the country.....

Allen that is one beautiful tractor!

My neighbor had the opposite problem. His 6 yr old son was playing gas station and topped his diesel car off with the garden hose. They found this out a little ways down the road.

What no alarm system on that beauty? It's a bad scenario when people resort to stealing gas.Proably get worse with prices and all.

Ok, how about this:

Chain link fence enclosure with coiled razorwire on the top. Motion sensor lights placed around the enclosure, with an activated air raid siren. That would scare them to no end.
But I guess it would scare the crap out of the occasional deer that wandered by as well. Plus you would be getting up a couple times a night when the siren went off.
Maybe just the enclosure with the lights would be enough?

No No No

Add a small tank like on the fuel versions. Run it off the small one and add sugar water to the big one. Fix the thieves car for them permanent.

I agree with you, Mike, but for some reason it just doesn't work that way anymore...

Maybe a propane fired cannon used to scare away birds would be enough so that the thieves soil themselves - if the law comes, there isn't anything wrong with firing a propane cannon other than maybe disturbing the peace... :)

My grandpa told me a story once about a gas thief. When he was a boy, his dad and uncles operated a thrashing crew with 2 machines, 2 F-20's and some mules. At the end of the day, they would fill the tanks up so they would be ready to go come morning. Over a day or two, they'd fire up the machines, run for just a bit, and they'd die. Found out all the gas had been stolen. One of his uncles had the idea to drain all the gas, fill the tanks with water(probably not a good idea, but it was the '30s) and let the crook experience what they call karma. The next morning, when they went to the field, they saw a Model A roadster sitting on the road, and the thief snoozing in the seat. Needless to say, they "persuaded" him not to do it again.

If I remember correctly, we have a Constitutional amendment that allows citizens of this country to bear arms. And lows that allow us to protect our lives and our property. I would think that a couple signs warning against trespassing would give proper warning to any would-be thieves. And if they don't get the message, they get shot.

Mike CA ---

The law says....you can use deadly force if you are defending a human life....

you cant use deadly force to protect property....

I have a permit,allowing me to carry a conceled wepon....I am in a wheelchare, I cant run.....

In this day and age, guys like Allen, should carry.

With out a permit he can carry on his oun property if he feels uneasy out out on the farm....Don

Shooting gas thieves is a good way to ensure yourself 25 years in the local prison and that you'll be dirt poor for the remainder of your years, in most states. You get sent away for murder, and the thieves' families sue you for wrongful death. That's the way our modern legal system works.

Heck, even if all you do is pop off a couple of shots to scare 'em, you can end up in a whole heap of trouble... Attempted murder... Unlawful use of deadly force... You go to jail and they go home with your gas!

BTW, people are stealing catalytic converters for the platinum. One of my coworkers had his stolen a few weeks ago.

Not too sure I would not 'bait' them up, and see about catching them. Game cameras are pretty slick now with infrared flash, etc. I believe I would put a few gallons of water in a jug sitting in sight of the M, and put a camera (out of sight), and see what happens. The tough part is getting the camera out of sight where the thieves cannot see it in daylight as they most certainly are scoping out the fuel source in daylight. Also, depending on how close it is from your residence you can get small motion sensors that will alert a receiver in your house. I have caught a few snooping around my driveway using this. I know the second they drive in my gate. Unfortunately I have had such bad luck with law enforcement doing anything you will have to have pictures of the thieves in the act AND their vehicle description and plate numbers. A taped confession would not hurt from my experience or the law will tell you they 'could have' been putting gas in for you instead of taking it. Guess you can tell I have a low opinion of our local law. A couple months ago I provided a vehicle description along with plate numbers of spotlighters shooting at deer on my property, and nothing came of it. They said they could not prove who was driving.

Back in the 60s, we had someone back up to our fuel tank and fill his car. Unfortunately for him, it was tractor fuel. Needless to say, his car did not run very well.

Had a farmer here that knew someone was stealing gas from his tank, went on vacation so put the lock on the nozzle. That night the thief cut the hose and took what he wanted and let the rest of the 1000 gallons run on the ground. Got in the waterway and cost a lot of money to cleanup....James

In Kansas City the theives have gotten to lazy to even use a syphon hose - they just drill a hole into your gas tank and drain it. So far none have turned themselves into the human torch but we can always hope.....

Around this area thieves are stealing catalytic converters even more than gas. About a month ago they stole the catalytic converter off of my frined's pickup and five other vehicles in the same parking lot one night. They mostly hit pickups and big SUV's that they can easily get under.

Catalytic converters have a small amount of platinum in them. Price of platinum is unreal right now. I don't how many converters it takes to amount to anything, but someone could get ahold of quite a few with a cordless sawzall in a dark parking lot in pretty short order.

Do what I did. Thieves kept stealing my gas so I filled a 5 gallon can full of gas and added 5 pounds of sugar and left it out. Sure enough enough it was stolen in about 2 days.

Maybe on newer vehicles????? Had some kids stealing my chainsaw gas for their mopeds. I doctored a can with extra oil, sugar and mollasses and never saw them slow down. Maybe over time as that junk fills up the bowls, but may take a few cans. Now, a can that accidently sparks when they pick it up..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..

Insulate the cap good and run about 400 volts to it..... .....

But with everything off the ground, couldn't a guy hook up a fence charger to it or the sheet metal somehow? I remember in shop class, we'd charge a condensor and throw it to someone. Knock hell out of them when they caught it and touched the end of the wire at the same time.

Maybe you could rig something..... Those people only understand and respect pain.

There ain't that many out there to choose from.(:~})

Had to put the lock back on the barrel here about 3 years ago.Went about 5 years without it.
