i have a 57 230 that has disc brakes . I have put new disc, new balls and new springs the ranps seem ok and are not stiff. the adjustments bolts are not frozen. when i tighten the housing up it locks the brakes hard enough that the tractor cant move.
IN the book i cant see any "shims" like are on the 686 we have but sure seems to need them . sure would like a little help with this. can ya help me out a little

it fixed its self ! i got it out this morning and tightened the bolts to about one turn loose had fair amount of resistance i drove it about 2 miles and down a long hill by this time i had no resistance so i stoped and snuged the bolts down drove back to the top of hill and went back down again back to the house and tightened the housings down tight . who would have thunk it? :?

I dont know whats going on friend . seems that maybe its loosening a little the bolts are now backed off about 1 3/4 instead of 2 turns these disc are aftermarket i'm wondering if maybe they were made a little too thick? dunno i guess time will tell :?

nope gene as said aboue the adjustment bolts are loose and backed out . Heck i even took the pedals plum loose LOL still tight. i can back the housing bolts off about two full turns and the brakes seem to work fine. if a person had turned the plates down looks like it would have less pedal rather than more?

your question has kept my brain busy all afternoon, as there was a memory from 40 yrs ago when the same thing happened on dad's super c. i keep wanting to say that back then, i put the assembly together wrong, and had the 2 pull links aimed 180 degrees off. but there is only 1 way that stuff will go together and still line up with the pin that keeps the assy from turning, right? marv has a possible explanation, but its more likely that the housing edge was planed than the transmission case surface. i'd never heard of someone milling the surface. it would have been cheaper to just get new disks in the first place.
it sounds like you could get it going by spacing the housing away from the trans case with a washer. you'd have to put silicone sealer around the housing to keep the crud out if you used washers. let us know what you find.

could you try one new disk and one used one? that would reduce the thickness of the pack a bit.

The previous owner mave have planed the brake hub surface. He did this so he he could make the old worn out discs last a bit longer. Try putting thin washers between the hub and the tractor housing. Marv

You probably have the adjusting too tight.
