Hi all,

If you go into the "Help Identify" section under "Gallery", I posted some pictures of a tractor which I believe to be a Farmall or International. I have nver seen one like it, but many parts look like they are IH. The tractor sits low to the ground. It is built like a tank. The final drives which are normally mounted up and down (vertically) are mounted left to right (horizontally). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Joe

Either shop mule, as mentioned, or airport tractor. Hebard built both.
Some lucky duck found a U.S. Navy 1942 bomb hauling tractor at an auction in AZ last year. Man, I would love to have one of those, being in the Navy and all. 8)

Is this the tractor with the IAA serial number you were asking about down below?

Sorry, this is not the tractor with the IAA serial number. Disregard my other post.

Okay. Just wondered. A lot of the folks that built custom stuff like shop mules and tugs would modify them almost beyond recognition, but would leave the builder's serial plates on them. If it had been the same one, I was gonna say you might want to disregard the decal info!

It is a Shop Mule, either a model A-14 or A-21. It was built by WF Hebard using A components supplied by IH. I see that the Hebard ID plate is missing (should be on dash, above steering column).

Looks like a lot is missing. Rare enough that it may still be worth fixing if the parts could be found. I see several parts in the picture I could use on mine that I will probably have to have fabricated!

I'd be happy to do measurements for you if you are going to fabricate parts. Do you have a picture of yours you could send. Also what was used for hoods and fenders? Farmall a sheetmetal? If so I happen to have a complete A I am using for parts. I could use the radiator, carb. and sheet metal for this one.

Gene,

The tractor is in NH. I will probably do a restoration on it, since it is rare. Maybe bring to a couple tractor shows. I will put it in the garage to keep out of the weather and begin to look for the missing parts. I honestly don't know what the worth of something like this would be. Maybe sell down the road. Currently have 20 tractors and want to sell a few off to concentrate on a couple of keepers. Thanks, Joe

Looks to be based on a W-4 to me, at least the engine size seems to be of the H/W-4 variety. Not sure if IH made something like that or if it's one of those shop mules or some offshoot of one.

Steven,

Thank you for posting the picures for me. Have any idea what year it is? Early 1940's? Was it used for towing?

Find some casting numbers and we can help with the year (they should read like 8-16-L = august 16, 1942) Also, there should be a serial number on the block, right below the #1 spark plug or above the distributor/magneto.

I'm not sure what all the shop mules were used for, here are some photos of shop mules from the Tractor Photos to the left...

These are the numbers above the distributor. I may not be 100 % because they were a bit tough to read. 157582

That number is for 1946 in the A/B/BN serial numbers.

My parts tractor Farmall A happens to be a 1946, you think those parts would be considered original for this?
