The number on the left top trans housing is 1A125062 and the Number on the seat bracket is the same(1A125062) I have cross ref this # and believe it to be a 1945. Can anyone be of assistance, or give me insight on this #? thanks

Bob: The number on the left seat support should be on a metal tag about 2"x4" and rivited to the seat support. That would be the serial tag. IA means it is an Industrial A. The only other place I know of a serial number is the engine serial number stamped just below no. 1 spark plug. Is this number cast in place by chance? No serial numbers are cast in place.

Thanks for the reply Hugh. The number is not cast. It is stamped at the top left of the trans housing, and is on the tag onthe seat bracket. I am in wyoming and the tractor is in Montana, so real hard to check other #s. We are trying to determine the year of the tractor, and so far the number falls between serial numbers manufactured in 1945. Thanks again! Bob

Bob: The tag on the seat support is the official IH - ID. The same number being stamped on left side of transmission could be an owner applied stamp for security reasons. Not a bad idea as those tags could very easily be removed. If you followed it through on serial numbers at left very likely it is a 45 model. Sounds reasonable to me without looking, and knowing full well production was close to 20,000 units pre year in those days.

When you get to engine serial number, it may not be exactly the same. Most were, however production line didn't always get the engines in an order of sequence with tractor. If it's off by more than 2-3, someone has changed the engine since.
