H or M throttle assembly question

I have a 1942 H that has the cast iron, friction plate, throttle assembly. Is that an IHC option? After-market replacement? Dealer option? Is the sawtooth the correct throttle for the H or only the M?

Looking to make this right and original.

THE 1939 M THAT I AM RESTORING HAS A FRICTION DISK AND I ASSUMED IT CAME ON THE TRACTOR IN THAT EVERYTHING ELSE APPEARS TO BE ORIGNAL. NOW CONFUSED TO WHAT IS ORGINAL.

Alot of times the little dog on the throttle lever would wear off to the point where it couldn't grap the teeth anymore. This becomes a real PITA in a big hurry particularly if you are running a PTO powered impliment. I wouldn't worry about the friction disk throttle. They are far better then the stock units.

As the others point out the sawtooth throttle is "correct" for your H.

However having put in many hours on all 3 types I much prefer the M&W friction type over the sawtooth and square tooth throttles. While it isn't original, to me the M&W just "feels right" on the H and M tractors.

The friction throttle is an aftermarket part, a few companies made them, but most of them around now are made by M&W. The Sawtooth IH throttle is correct for early models, and the aquare tooth is correct for late models. Yours uses a sawtooth throttle.

Rusty and Andrew are exactly right. But, in addition, there is also a "square tooth" throttle which looks very much like the saw tooth. It was factory also, and I believe it was both replacement for earlier tractors, and also original for later letter series tractors like super H and super M. In my opinion, it is not as good as a "saw tooth" in good condition.

I'd trade a saw tooth for a friction. Although they are "aftermarket", they were very common when the tractros were new and as others have said, are superior to the factory units.

Thank goodness the correct police have not found my place yet.

The throttle you have is an aftermarket unit originally made by M&W. The sawtooth style would be original.

The friction throttle is after market made by M&W most likely. They were put on over the years by the oweners etc... the orginal is the saw tooth type.
