A friend of mine is looking at a 300 utility with a loader on it, and a fast hitch to 3 point adapter. The guy is asking 3000.00 If he wants to look at it are there in secrets of the 300 He will need to know? Thanks Ron

HI Ron

As the rest mention check out the steering. I picked up a 350U with loader, IPTO, power steering, and TA last summer for $1700. Everything works well on it and I used it to bale up about 300 bales of hay end of last year for a test. it worked well and they are good tractors but if the steering is bad I wouldn't bother. If it is good. I would negociate a bit on that price.

They are great tractors. We own a 350U and have nothing but parise for it. They can have issues with steering if manual or PS. but as with all old equipment they are very servicable. There is a kit available to change the entire steering to a replacement box (in the archives I'm sure) Nothing can tell you what to do. Every part of any tractor can be just waiting to break. I remember driving the U we have for the first time around and around the front yoar. It is still very operational, but has not got that flawless pristine feel to it any more. JimN

Ron: The steering is suspect, especially if the tractor has had a loader on it. As others have said, many steering parts are not available. mike

An "H" ,"M" , 300, 350, 400, 450 Farmall with a live pump is a much better choice. If he thinks he just has to have a utility get a 504. The 300 U steers hard. clutch works hard and poor brakes. Also all utilities are very hot and dirty in summer

Ron: Steering box is the big weakness in those utilities. If steering box is bad, it's an expensive fix, if you can find the parts.
