I have an M that I bought froze up, in the process of rebuilding and found that the block is cracked. I have a power unit off of a sawmill ID plate says it is a U6 bore is 3 7/8 will this block work in my M without modification, other than the visible differences ( has a dipstick ,and a fuel pump on the side ) Thanks for any input

I'm not 100% certain but I believe side frame clearance issues will prevent the original U6 starter from fitting when installed into an M tractor. Ie. you will need to use the original M starter with the transplanted engine.

Also unless the U6 and M flywheel/ring gear assemblies are not 100% identical I would recommend relocating the original M flywheel onto the transplanted U6 engine. (And if the U6 ring gear shows signs of wear now is the ideal time to install a new one - it'll be $40 well spent!)

Same engine, should fit with no problems.
