First of all thanks to everyone who has helped me out over the last year.

The rubber on my harmonic balancer look real bad. Probably original on a 358 German Diesel. Am I gonna have problems if i don't replace it?

And I rebuilt the PTO. The old bronze clutches were all welded together and the clutch pot was kinda blue like it had been really hot!! Anyway, the snapring wasn't on the very front that holds the gear that engages the clutch disks. That gear had rubbed against the clutch engagement piston. Like a fool i was in a hurry and didn't figure out how to get it back on. It all works fine and i think i know how get it back on, but i'll have to pull it out again. Anyone heard of the pto driveshaft coming off because of this?

And lastly, i drained the oil and after putting the pto back in the MCV pump sings when I rev it up. it was a gallon low and after adding two gallons and warming it up it seemed to not sing. will it sing until the air is out and did i hurt something?

Any help would be great.

Replace the balancer before it comes apart on you. I think IH recommends replacing them every 5000 hours. They absorb the vibrations in the crankshaft and a failing damper can lead to a broken crankshaft. As for the pump singing they will do that in cold temps until the oil warms. Have you replaced the hydraulic oil filter recentally?

I did notice that it was better when it warmed up. I did replace the filter a couple of months ago. Will price a balancer ASAP.

Thanks,
Curtis

Your not going to like the price on a new balancer but if you don't replace it and your crank breaks its gonna cost a lot more. Case IH still has new ones, Part number 3132270R95 $602.25. You can try salvage yards you might find a good used one at half new price.

I just saw one at AI tractor parts for 325.

I can't see 600+ because i only gave 4000 for the whole tractor!!

I agree it would be dumb to blow the motor up. The rubbber in the one on it looks real bad.

It sure does run good, that German diesel just wants more and more.
