None of my gauges or idiots lights seem to be working on my tractor. Are there any special procedures to check them? Is the oil pressure switch just a continuity switch that is made with pressure? What is the most common cause of the tach not working? The cable or the tach itself? What about the water temp sensor?

Thanks,

Joe

Nine times out of ten the tach has a bad cable.

Oil pressure lite uses a ground searching pressure switch ran thru a bulb as is the alt lite, which grounds at the alternator.

Fuel gauge is a standard ground=full circuit.

However, you will have to replace the complete gauge head if the temp gauge doesn't work because the temp gauge/sender are all one unit.

he is telling you right. The whole cluster will have to be changed if it is the temp or fuel. The cluster was used on several models and had a dummy light for oil and charge. And actual real live gauges for temp and fuel. According to some you can't replace the temp cable as it was mecury or something like that.
However, with all your gauges out, I would look at each one individually to see. If the cabels have been cut, then that isn't good. The cluster comes with a new sending unit for temp., but usually only has the prongs in rear to plug up fuel wires. Only light sockets as well. I'm also fixing up a 656 Gas/ 263/ 1966

Good luck

Jerry
