I have a 1965 Cub Lo-Boy that I have just finsihed restoring. It was a running tractor when I got it, In fact it runs really good. I fixed some sheetmetal, replaced the front cover(fan hub bracket had broke and was welded on crooked), and took care of some other minor details. Problem is no I start it and can't get the oil pump to fill the oil filter. Could the pump have lost its prime when I had the pan off. I didnt have the pump out, or mess with the rods/mains. I eve poured a quart in the filter housing when I replaced the filter(bought from IH dealer). If I took the filter out and poured a little 90w oil down the cnter hole would that maybe help the pump get its prime back?

i also need a good set of decals for the same tractor. IH dealer said they are unavaliable from IH...any good aftermarket source for these?
Thanks in advance for all the help
Don

I made a reservoir to fill the oil galleys after rebuilding my Cub motors. I used a 1-1/2 pipe nipple about 10" long with caps screwed onto both ends. Then tap one end for a quick disconnect airline fitting. Tap the other cap for a short length of hose. The rubber hose from a grease gun works well. Remove one cap and fill with fresh oil. Screw hose into 1/8" pipe fitting in place of the oil gage or on the other side of the block. Add air to push the oil and fill the block. Repeat as needed.

inside the filter housing on the block side there is a hole, pump that hole with a squirt can until full. That should prime the pump. Reinstall the filter and fire it up. Two of my cubs will do that if not started on a regular basis with 10-30 oil. Never had that problem with 30 weight.

Yes the Cub does that alot. the way i primed my cub is there a plug (alen head) in cast right to the side of the fliter housing fill that with some oil out of a oiling can. There is also a prime plug on the left side of the bell housing the down side is that its under the hydro lines and is hard to get at. I just just did the first one had had oil pressure right away after i rebuilt mine.
