How can I determine if I have a 540 RPM or 1000 RPM PTO? I was looking up the part number for the Hydraulic filter and it shows two part numbers one for th3 540 and the other for the 1000.

Thanks,

Joe

PS. How hard should the pull on the lever be to engage the PTO?

656 was available with 1000 rpm PTO? Can anyone verify this?

I may have just learned something today

Yes they were available with 1000 RPM PTO. Had to have a seperate unit installed for it.

It also appears that my PTO lever is seized in the shaft housing that runs from the handle over to the left side of the tractor. I will need to put some penetrating oil in there to break it loose.

Soak it and go gently so that you don't ruin those roll pins.

Probably hasn't been used much. A good thing, really. :>)

If I end up needing a pump that is what I will do. I just wasnt sure which pump is in there now for the Hydraulic Filter change.

Check your owners manual or I&Tmanual for SN codes. There was a letter in the 560 SN that indicated whether the hyd. pump was 12GPM or 17GPM. Armand

Thanks,

I just found another wrinkle to the deal. How do I determine if I have the 12GPM Pump or the 17GPM pump? I figured that CaseIH would have it broken down by serial number. Do the 17GPM pumps interchange with with the 12GPM? My tractor is a 1967 model.

Don't even think about it. Put in the 17gpm pump.

Difference is like night and day if you ever end up using the tractor for loader work.

Either pump will work in your tractor. Tractors after serial No 13012 had the 17 GPM pump. The pto lever should work smooth and easy.

540 PTO has 6 splines, 1000 RPM PTO has 21 splines.
