I have a Super A. They are great little tractors for garden work. One comment I've heard may times is that the "Super A is geared better, the 140 is too fast". I think what happen is IH turned up the RPM's on the motor to make more HP, but didn't change the gearing so the 140's go a little faster. I have never worked a 140, so I don't know for sure. Don't forget the 100 and 130 either, there all the same basic tractor. The most limited one is the Super A-1, not many produced in 1954, basically a 100 with a Super A grill.

Main two differences are:

1) The SA has a 113 cubic inch engine and makes about 19 hp. The 140 has a 123 cubic inch engine and makes about 22-23 hp. Same engine family.
2) The 140 has a water pump and pressurized cooling, whereas the SA does not.

There are many, many other differences and most, if not all, are very minor. I have had both and have been very content with both. Either is an excellent tractor. Don't forget the Farmall 100 and 130 also. They are 123 cubic inch engines like the 140. (Manufactured in 1955-57, between the Super A and the 140.) However, they do not have the squared off grill like the 140.

What I would do, is buy the first one I found in excellent condition at a fair price - regardless of which model it was. mike durhan
