I had to replace the old radiator with a new one. I ordered it from the local tractor dealer. I have a 1948 H. The new radiator fit just perfect, however, the old cap doesn't fit the new radiator. In addition there is an overflow port in the neck of the new one. Kind - a like the port for a hose to an overflow tank. Do I need to cap this off or install an overflow tank? I thought the old coolant system was under pressure. Any info would be appriciated.

A 1948 H SHOULD have already had the late style, pressurized radiator, but since you say the old cap will not fit the new radiator, and also there is a difference in the overflow tube, I"m going to guess that the old radiator you took off is of the old, non-pressurized style, and is NOT what should have been there. The caps are different, the overflow tubes are different, and there is even a slight difference in the opening in the grill where the radiator neck comes through. If you do have the old style grill, it can be modified a bit and made to work.

The overflow pipe should run down the left side of the radiator ending about at the frame level. The H never had an overflow tank; that came much later with the auto industry.

if it is a non pressurized system, the gas cap will also fit on the radiator. down and dirty way to check.
