i think its an h. right there in front of higbees department store. could be a c though, doubt if its an m. yup the christmas story, poor ralphie, just dying for the red ryder bb gun. right after he gets scrappy with scutt farkas, there is the parade with the farmalls pulling floats. i think they are h's. i dunno, could be wrong, they have the 24 hour marathon of the christmas story. so many questions. why did flick stick his tongue on the flag pole??? was randy's zeppelin the hindenberg???? ahhh welll..... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL !!!!!

Definetly an M in reply to glennster, 12-25-2007 04:33:00
The tractors are DEFINETLY Ms (probably the same one both times). I have been watching that movie for 20 yrs and I rewound and played in slow-mo (zoom on DVD). The engine area from the oil pan to the top of the hood is too tall to be an H. The angle of the steering column is correct for an M also. I don"t remember if it is clear enough to count the grille bars or not. An H looks longer and lower even though both tractors have the same wheel base. I could see it well enough to notice a lot of silver overspray on the tires.

On the flag pole thing, I saw a behind the scenes show about the movie one time. IIRC the pole was plastic with a small hole with mild suction applied to keep the kids tounge stuck.

Isn't it a little big for an H? Looks more like an M. The movie is playing I'll have to go look. What we need is the DVD version of the movie and zoom in on the tractor. I can remember when Shep was on WOR in New York. He would come on at 9;15 till 10pm. What a funny show and every night was different! This is the only movie that I have gone to and have known everything in it BEFORE I watched it. The movie is based on the storys he would tell on the radio. So sad he is gone. Google Jean Shepard and read his bio. Jeffcat

i was looking at the size of the guy driving it and the rear tires. he looked pretty tall in the seat, and looks a lot like the size of my h. tractor seemed a little on the lean side to be an m. i tried a couple times to get a look at the light bar on the steering column to see if it was maybe a c. did look kind of big for a c tho in comparison to the rack pulling santa's float. i dunno jeff, just one of them little mysteries of life.....kinda like...mary ann or ginger?????

Flick stuck his tounge to the flagpole 'cause he was TRIPLE-dog dared to do it, naturally!

Wonder how the movie-makers pulled that off....sure looked like a real tounge, and sure looked like it WAS stuck to that pole!

I think Randy's zepplin was just A zepplin, not the hindenburg.

Watched that movie(again) with my son last night.

Merry Christmas!

I think it is the same H going around the town square. Clever use by the director of the same prop twice. Merry Christmas, everyone!
