putting live hydraulics on my M--how to do it?

I would very much like to put some sort of live two-way hydraulics on my M. Can someone advise on what "strategies" or how I could do this?

For the pump: I was thinking of buying one of the new ones available that fit an MTA by the distributor. From my research, I would also have to get a late model front engine cover and plate so that the mounting holes line up?

I would use the original Lift All reservoir, put an elbow on the drain plug hole, and use that for the inlet to the pump.

Not too sure what to do for the control valve. You can find on ebay the original IHC 2 way remote control valve that mounts on the Lift-all inlet pipe. But these don't have a relief valve. I have seen people mount standard hydraulic valves on the light bar, but I don't really care for this arrangement.

Are there any live hydraulic kits for an M available out there anywhere?

If someone has ever done this, I would appreciate your expertise. Pictures would be great also. Thank you!

i put a live pump on my 48 m. the top two bolt holes on the pump are a little off where they mount to the motor. you can either change the front cover to a super m, or, plug the top two holes with bolts, cut them off flush, mount the pump and re-drill and tap the holes. be careful you dont drill all the way thru the cover. you may want to change the camshaft drive gear, the old gear isnt made to handle the live pump unless you have a very late model m. (if you have a gear driven hour meter, its prolly a late m.) my 48 lasted a year with the old gear and then let go. the belly pump makes a good resevoir, run your spool valve return to a tee at the fill pipe, then put a tee in the drain plug hole and run that return to the pump.you can mount a spool valve behind the belt pulley, and run a control rod up to the light bar, kinda like this one.

I have a few ideas to offer... mine is on an H, but the M would be even easier to put belt drive hydraulics on as there is much more room in front of the engine.

The liftall reservoir really doesn't hold enough for more than about a 5 GPM pump - the oil will get pretty hot if you don't have enough capacity. I put an oil cooler on my H in front of the radiator to help the problem, but it still gets pretty hot.

Here is a mounting option for your 2-way valve(s):

And this is how I put live hydraulics on my H (on an M, the pump would hang out the other side, or even underneath):

Pulley mounted on crankshaft:

Pump mounted on the tractor:

Puts out about 15 GPM at full throttle and will develop near 1000 psi before the belt slips. I have a priority valve plumbed in for my power steering, and one of the spools has float for my mower.
