Their is a adjustment on the fuel shut off solenoid which good limit the main jet fuel flow. Its 41/2 turns out from when it contacts the plunger.

most of the newest #s of those solenoids do not have adjustments anymore.

how fresh is your gas? when's the last time you dumped out the sediment bowl? and checked the fuel flow speed to the carb?

those solenoids SUCK. listen for one solid click from it, multiple clicks are bad, so is no click. if your wiring is bad, rewire it, as you will lose the solenoid that way too. nothing wrong with a wire direct from the ign switch if unsure of your wiring.

what is the status of your air filter? clogged, dirty filters will give all sorts of fits we assume to be fuel..

also, is this a gear, hydro, farmall or international model? (90% the same anyway, but some minor differences)

new solinoid, new wiring harness, new filters, new fuel, already have done all that stuff. i just think that the early ih carbs were junk, that is why they wentto the marvel carb.also zenith is now making a new carb to replace the marvel. im not sure if it will go on in place of the ih carb.

ours has an IH carb on it, and it was one of the last ones built. we're original owners. only problems have been dirt in various places and the solenoid, about every 2-5 years ;). and the manifold heater spring was wired since the anchor pin rusted away.
maybe the carb on yours is off a much smaller displacement engine since the number doesn't match in the parts book. the jet would be too small, causing the need for choke. are you needing to choke no matter what or only at idle? the idle is completely adjustable, and neeeds to be set right for it to run below full throttle.

you should be able to get the right jet by ordering the one for your tractor, since the carb body is about the same between that design.
otherwise if it's a cluster, just get a new carb that is designed for the engine. anything with a warranty is better than completely wrong stuff you have now. if you want to tinker a little more, find out what size the jet needs to be and drill it out.

good luck

I use a 656 gas as my loader tractor, always had problems with the choke having to be out until the engine warmed up, and it usually still wanted some choke.

I solved my problem by removing the solenoid and plugging the port with a bolt: I just have to let her warm up and then she runs fine with no choke. Also, and most important, make sure the valve in the manifold is open. Thats what that little bi-metal coil on the side of the manifold controls.
When it gets rusty, the valve sticks, sometimes in the wrong position.

Since you changed the solenoid, try changing the bi-metal coil, and making sure the shaft it mounts on turns freely. Trust me, it drove me nuts for awhile too. Until I just took the troublemaker off.

I just went thru this. Been fighting this darned tractor ever since I bought it some 3 years ago.

Spent half a lifetime working on carbs and thought I knew the silly things inside and out. Darned simple little tractor carb just about drove me nuts.

Fianlly, just had the dealer order me a new one from IH. It was either that or give the tractor away.

The replacement carbs come with the high side adjustment instead of that goofy, troublesome solenoid.

No more tractor problems is all I can tell ya.

Marvel Scrabler (sp?)

Total mess from the word go.

Engine out of an 806 had been installed at one point and I just had it overhauled this fall; carb appeared to be off of a smaller outfit tho.

Had been cobbled; solenoid plugged off and the load jet was really, really messed up. As you'll recall, I've been complaining for years about the way this thing would suck the fuel. Worse than a normal gasser even.

The new carb is 2" taller with the solenoid arrangment deleted and a high side adjustment in it's place.

Anyway, after the proper 806 carb was installed and in conjunction with that electronic ignition, the black smoke is gone, tractor now touts an absolute instant start with a full 80/90 horse, really runs sweet and the trips to the fuel barrel have subsided by a factor of 4.

Kinda scary. But, I'm starting to like this gas tractor..... ..... finally. :>)
