third party imageWell I got the whole rear end gutted and am going to replace all the bearings. Most of them were pitted and rusty so I might as well do it right, and it gave me more experience on the inner workings of these H's.

Have no idea what bearings will cost but will call CaseIH and bearing places to get pricing.

Lots more pics on the link below, click on slideshow or each image to see them bigger.

Hi Neblinc,

When bearings are the same as for an M this are the ones:

The Bower bearing on end of upper shaft can be replaced with a common SKF NU 2205 ECP.Replaces the Bower 5205.
Pilot Clutch 6205-2R.
Rest of gears upper shaft and lower shaft:SKF6211 under upper SKF6311.
Site of the bellypump undershaft 6305-NR-R.One rubber seal to prevent leaking and help the seal to the bellypump a little. They can be mounted in tandem with alittle grease bewteen.See for all this www.skf.com.
Also the bigger ones in the rear are on them.I had to replace one.I thought in 6330 or 6325?

All can easyly bought on ebay.com or ebay.de for not much.
Very nice internetsite you made.I like the shop too!!!!

Hi Randy, Last spring I was in the same boat you are in, replacing every bearing in the H rear and tranny! I got all my bearings at a place called Coldwell in Terre Haute Indiana and saved a TON! Dealer is so high if you call them for prices you will feel a lot better about replacing all the bearings from Coldwell! CaseIH wanted $198 for the outside wheel bearing and coldwell had them for about $62 and those were the most expensive bearings to replace! They can cross refference all the numbers except the pilot bearing (bower bearing)on the input shaft which is getting hard to find they said but they had one for me in one day. They also had all the seals CHEAP! They handle NTN bearings which are about the best there is. You can find thier number in the yellow pages and I would bet they can ship them to you. Good guys who know what they are doing! When you replace the "maxload" bearings be sure to keep the "notches" turned to a side where the balls can"t come back into the gear case if they wear agian or get a shock load. That will save the case from getting blown out. When I got mine done, you could feel the difference in how smooth it rolled and operated! It is amazing how much horsepower is eaten up by wore out bearings. My H went from a "cuss target" to my favorite tractor! Good luck on your project!

Randy, Do yourself a favor and give Mike Bunck at Steel Wheel Ranch a call. Check him out and get the phone number at their web site, SteelWheelRanch dot com. He sold me used bearings for my "46 H at less than half the cost of new ones. I couldn"t tell the difference between them and new ones. Mike will not sell you junk, it will be as good as new for a lot less. Larry

Randy: Keep up the good work, never mind the goading these guys dish out, they are only jealous. When I was a teenager, my dad used to take his tractors to a guy with a shop like yours. If he were assembling an engine, the doors were locked and no one was allowed in. He claimed the dust created by folks milling about could affect items like crank and rod bearings.

He was equally as particular with items like transmissions, hydraulics, etc. I'll bet he rebuilt 90% of the tractors in our valley. I never heard tell of him turning out a bad one.

When you hang out your shingle let me know, I may have an engine to rebuild, Farmall of course.

Well Glenn, Got off the phone with CaseIH and was surprised that they were not that much higher on bearings, but still higher that the local bearing places. Motion came in higher than Precision Industries on most of them.

Wonder why CaseIH seals are so out of line compared to local bearing places.

Think I will bring in the bearings just to be sure they get me the right ones.

Still did not expect to spend that kind of money on bearings.:(

randy, run those old bearings over to berry bearing.(motion industries) the can match most all the bearings for prolly 1/3 the price from the dealer. just think, with the overall savings....you can buy another tractor!!!!

Ya Mike, one thing leads to another, started out just trying to fix leaks, find a bad bearing, pretty soon, here are some more. Well If I have to take this off, might as well replace this one too..... ...

Looks like the bearings are gonna cost me, almost $300 for just the 4 axle bearings from the local bearing dealer, plus another $200+ for the rest of them. Ouch!! have not even called CaseIH yet, hate to hear their prices.

So when folks say "I'm just gonna fix a couple of links, clean it up and paint it" THIS is what they mean???

Randy, I'm wondering what your definition of a full restoration is? Are you going to melt down the '50 and recast the parts?? third party image
