I know this is a tractor forum but maybe someone can help me out. The other day I was leaving the grain elevator with my 67 IH farm truck and when I pulled the button up for high axle it would not shift into high range. When I got home I looked under the truck and saw what looks like a small electric motor mounted to the frame. It has an air line coming from the front of the truck hooked to it and another one that goes to the shifting mechanism on the axle. It also has a wire hooked to it. Could this be where the problem is? Are these things repairable or do I need to get a new one? Thanks

Could be a bad switch on the shift lever. Could be no power to the switch from a fuse or bad connection. Had this on an IH truck that I had.

Ill add to Yugro's Idea that it could also be vacuum leak/s. Pull the hose off of the control solenoid where it leaves to go to the Dif. It should have vacuum in one position of the shifter sw, and no vqacuum the other position (engine running of course). JimN

Sounds like an electrically operated solenoid. Could be as simple as no power to the valve, broken wire, faulty switch. Crawl under with a tests light and have someone operate the switch in the cab. You should be able here the solonoid work.
