I have a bad starter in my H. The local shop said it has a short in the field wires. Its a two bolt, twelve volt starter. He wanted $198 for a new one. Dose any one have a better source?

Sound to me like they are just trying to sell you a new starter. Dont understand why a local "shop", assuming its a starter repair shop, cant fix it.

I had a credit at Steel Wheel Ranch for $30 so I purchased one from them for $130. Come to find out the repair shop was trying to sell me a new starter. They told me later that to would be $90 to repair mine...a little to late. Thanks for all your help again. Steve

Have you tried thei site and or value bilt. I know value list a 6 volt starter for around $160 and a starter doesn't care if its rated at 6 volts or 12 volts both work on 12 volts. And by the way that $198 is right in the ball park for a starter on most tractors, I have payed a good bit more at times for them

I get $75 for good used ones. Just a standard H or M starter They don't care if they are 6 or 12 volt.
