Well I found out for sure why the beast wont run. Pulled the head off Thursday and found this.

No. 2 piston is rusted in place. Cause the no 2 exhaust vale was open when the tractor was left to sit proboly for the winter, and the muffler wasnt completely covered, so water ran right down into it. All the other cylinders looked really nice though.

I have freed up several like that. Use a 4.5 inch angle grinder with a wire brush wheel. Get down inside that cylinder. It will clean up nice. Then use a oak tree limb that just fits in the cylinder. about 10-12 inches long. Beat that piston down then put in blaster or ATF to free the rings. You could remove the one piston and free up the rings. Then reassemble.

You're in luck. Every one I tear down has ALL of the cylinders rusted up like your number 2 cylinder. Of course one of mine was left sitting outside, uncovered, with the head removed, and another one was abandoned with the spark plugs removed.

EVERY stuck tractor I have taken apart was due to ONE exhaust valve being open and the exhaust not covered or the owner relied on a crummy rain cap over the winter/summer.

Last stuck one I worked on was a W-9 not touched for over 20 years, but they had a cap over the exhaust. Took one day of soaking and it came loose and was running.

Good luck fixing it up!
