yester day i dont think could have gone any worse except for breaking some thing really serious .. this was my first time pulling and i was VERY nervious hooked the tractor up to the sled took me 3 times to get the slack out of the chain and well i pulled it about 6 feet then the tires started spining ... the hitch bent down about 4 inches :< so ok i was done for the night didnt have a jack with me to strihten the hitch and it was the stock hitch ok so i spent a good chunk of time today making a new one for pulling its 19.5 inches off the ground and is much shorter of a draw bar... Will this help? then on the way out sparking started shooting every where out of the electrical box then it stoped charging :( got another pull tommaorw then i got to take the genorator off and have someone rebuild it becuase i dont know how to so it was a verry upseting day hopefully tommaorw wil be better

Pat, Yearsssss ago I did some antique class pulling until I realized it took big bucks to compete and no one but me was actually stock grrrrr rrrrr . For sure you want that drawbar SHORT N UP CLOSE AND NOT WAYYYYY YYYY BACK FROM THE TRACTOR. Then get the front n rear weight balanced to the point under a hard pull the front end just floats above the ground a tad to put the weights where it matters. Then use whatever gear (if rules permit) so you would run out of HP and traction at about the same time i.e. if geared too low she spins out but if too high she runs out of HP. The thing is, you probalby wont have the gear ratio you need, it will be somewhere between 1st and 2nd lol and you wont have the HP to run at the higher gear grrrrr rrr

Also when pulling you dont wanna waste any precious HP on things OTHER THEN what turns the rear wheels DUH. Things like Generators and fans and water pumps and unused gears n hydraulics n PTO parts etc etc are alllll l horsepower robbers so eliminate as much as you can and utilize stored energy (big honkin battery that can also serve as front end ballast) where possible instead of the engines energy during the pull.

Run fresh clean water free gas and eliminate unneeded inlet air restrictions n have the carb set rich enough and have a good strong hot spark fer sure.

best wishes

John T

For pulling the Transfer at Durham i assume thats where you were, you want to pull off the stock draw bar. if you bent it look for one off a Super H, M, Super M etc.. As for pulling the stone boat you want a hitch that tucked in close to the bottom of the trans. I cant make it to the pull today, however look at the other H's there there shold be at leat 5 and see how they have theres set up. Good luck with the pull.

I assume you are in CT. Are you pulling in Brooklyn; the north east corner of the state?

The one time I went there, all the competitors had fast reving modified tractors and were highly experienced. I'll bet they pull most weekends. Stock tractors and newbies don't stand a chance. There weren't any antique stock farm classes.

Have a pic of the hitch how it is now by any chance? Somebody might be able to give you some ideas on how to strengthen it so it doesn't bend down again. Here is a video of our M pulling last year. Never got a video this year, memory not what it use to be lol.
