Hello,

I have a question.

Does anyone know if someone has made a tractor with 2 PTO shafts in the rear end of a tractor ?

I have heard about several tractors with 1 in the rear, and 1 in the side, but how about 2 in the rear ?

The 1000 shaft has a smaller spline so you can't inter change the impliment that you hook up. The 1000 shaft is for large horsepower tractors that would twist off a 540 shaft if full power is needed.

Our IH 1466,1256,856, and 986 all had 2 PTO shafts in the back. One was 540 RPM the other was 1000 RPM. I'm sure many other models had that option. I don't think any other makes did though...I could be wrong.

Butch, lots of other makes had the 1000 RPM PTO on them. Some even had a 2 speed PTO that could be switched from one to the other with the lever. All JD tractors have had this for a long time. You have to change shafts on those. Ford tractors from at least the 7000 series and up can also have the shafts changed. Just pull a snap ring take out one shaft and put in the other. They sit in a different gear inside the tractor to increase the speed.

Georgeky,

Did any of those makes you listed have 2 shafts actually come out of the rear end? I was aware of placing different shafts into one output. I am interested in knowing of others.

Butch, they did not. They just used the interchangable shaft. I am not sure if any others actually had both shafts like lots of the IH tractors do or not. I am thinking I have seen two on others, but don't know for sure. Sorry if I misunderstood your question. I thought you just wanted to know if any others had the 1000 RPM for them or not.

Hi, Starting with the 706, 806 and 1206 all the IH of those series and newer had two pto shafts, except for some of the 14 and 15 series had 1000 only. Chuck

Hello, and thank you for your reply.

Do you know how early IH started with 2 PTO shafts, and how did they work, could you use both at the same time, independantly or how ?

Bill,

The IH's we have, both PTO's turn at the same time but at different speeds and generally when you pull an implement you only need one PTO shaft to operate it. The newer JD's we have have only 1 output shaft BUT you could remove a snap ring then take out the shaft and put it in the other direction and replace the snap ring. The shaft you removed had a splined center with a 540 RPM on one end and a 1000 RPM on the other. As for when the IH started with two shafts coming out of the rear end I don't know.

Hi Butch, We finally had a good rain early this morning. The storm is still lurking around with some thunder, but it's not raining. We received about 1.250 inches. I was out on APG yesterday
they're working a lot of overtime. We're getting plenty of tomatoes. We were in Cecil county to see my sister and the corn and soybeans look very good. They're building a new truck in SC known as the MRATS. The design is suppose to deflect those IED explosions. They can't make them fast enough, I don't why they don't give out contracts to other truck companies.

HI Hal,

We have had a very dry spell here in south central WI. only had 1" in the last 6 weeks. 2 miles away they had up to 5" in one shower moving through. Very spotty. Fortunately we were quite wet before the dry spell. Another few days without rain before the last rain we got would have kept the corn from pollenating. Now things are back to decent condition but still need more. Our tomatoes are still green and slightly smaller than normal.

My brother is busy as usual at APG, Oshkosh Truck is sending reinforcments now!
