My mother looking to sell my father's 1939 Farmall M(Serial # 5056). My dad recently passed away. She is wondering what a good price would be. The tractor was just recently overhauled and given a new paint job so it is in excellent condition.

I say keep it. Give hay rides to kids in the fall. Offer the local town/city to pull a float in a parade. Take it out and work it for some relaxation. Or just store it and turn it over every month. Whatever. Just keep it. You may regret selling it.

please keep her. and if you cannont keep it inside at least tarp it real good and if you know you are not gonna start and run her every 2 months at a min no exceptions. if you are going to just let her sit wind the motor up to full throttle and dump in engine/tranny oil till she dies out. that will keep her from locking up.. even if it has a rain cap on put a five gallon bucket over the muffler and make sure the manafold doslent let water in as this can cause a hughe pain in the a$$ in the future. when you wanna run it take out the plugs blow her out by turning it overand put het back to gas. run it slow for first good warm up and if it runs real bad dont run it like that just fix it. my 2 cents

All depends on condition and you say it is excellent, so it being a 39 which is the first year of production I would think it could be anywhere from 1500 to 3500 depending on the day and who is wanting one. Many M's can be bought for less than a thousand. That being said I am wondering why you don't keep your dad's tractor? Remember that once it is gone it will be hard to track down and get back, should you decide in the future that you wish you had your dad's old tractor. I have my grandpa's 1950 Cub and it takes me back to my childhood and the time I spent with gramps. I would not dream of ever letting it go. He thought that little tractor was the greatest thing since the wheel. That is my opinion for what it is worth.

Thanks for the info! We may keep it actually, we are just looking at options.
