I continue to blow the 30 amp fuse for the lights on my 666. What could be the cause? The dash lights continue to work after the fuse is blown which tells me it is not the switch. Do I have a short between the switch and one of my lights? Please advise.

Mine done the same thing. It caught me away from home at dark, and out of necessity I put a nail in mine trying to make it home. After a couple miles down the road a fire broke out under the dash. The next day I installed a new light switch and have had no more problems with it. It could have as easily been a bare wire somewhere.

Look at the "blown" fuse.

Is it clearly blown, or has it simply melted, and kind of drooped apart?

A clearly blown fuse (may have black deposits inside the glass) indicates a short.

However, if the fuse holder is corroded, or simply not gripping the fuse tightly, the fuse will get hot and fail by melting from the heat, rather than from an actual short. Cleaning up the fuseholder, and bending it so it grips the fuse tigher MAY solve that problem, or the fuseholder may have to be replaced, if "melting" the fuse turns out to be the problem.

I'm going to put on my cynical hat for a moment:

A short... YA THINK?

Okay, cynical hat removed. Please don't be offended, I'm just joshing around with ya :)

What you need to do is trace out the wires and find out where one has rubbed through, or simply replace all the wires...

Would you first check under the dash? Can the switch short out if wet?
