I've looked in all my manuals and can't find what this hole is for. It's about 1 1/2 in. dia and has a metal plug in it. It's just below and left of the serial No. tag in the bell housing of 140's. Anyone know it's purpose?

Ment to say below and right of the serial tag.

Thanks Haas, I see it. Page 72 though shows only the right side of the tractor but the wording on page 75 explains. Think I'll write IH and get them to claify in their next publication. Ha.

The hole is for access to lube the clutch release bearing. Look at your owners manual page 75, item 22 in the lube chart. Does not need much grease. Even if you use the tractor a lot, once a year is enough. The manual says every 250 hrs.
