Can anyone tell me if a W9 w/pump & an M w/pump rotate the same direction? Also do the two physically look the same? Thank you.

The rotation difference is an idler in the drive train from the crank to the magneto/distributor drive that is a part of the drive train for a W9 but not an M.

With the radiator cap removed and the water level plumb full, do you get bubbles when it is running. W9's were nortorious for cracked heads. Won't leak into the crankcase, but into the radiator from the combustion chamber.

Good luck

I was just curious cuz the magneto turns backwards from the M. The engine pushes water out after its ran for a while & the head has been replaced, the pan was dropped with engine hot & pressured up & no signs of coolant leaking down into the crankcase. The engine is mounted in an M chassis which was done by someone else & I wasn't sure what parts were used from which eng. Also the radiator was replaced with a new one. I understand the coolant capacity of the M isn't as large as the W9, but it pushes coolant just driving it around & not even working it. I'm not familier with the W9 eng yet, just thought if the two w/pumps were alike that just maybe the W9 pump rotated opposite like the mag & that would create the pushing coolant problem I'm having. Thank you for all your help.

I believe that the w9 has a larger casting with different mounting hole separations. I can rebuild that pump. If you are interested shoot me an email.

I am sure they both rotate the same way. All tractors that I know of, the crankshaft rotates clockwise when facing toward the rear of the tractor, 8N's, W-9's, 3020&4020 JD.

I doubt the W9 and M pumps are the same.
