It is not that often you get a women that is willing to get her hands dirty letalone part and fix tractors. She told me that wide fronts with the tyerods in back of the axle are woth more then the ih ones with the tyrodes in front. Are the aftermarket wide fronts worth more then the orignal? i have both type and i like the IH wide front very easy to steer!

jonnny: The front ends with tyrods out front don't steer as easy as tyrods behind. It quite simple socket and ball are going turn easier than yokes with pins. The tyrods out front were next to impossible to keep lined up 50-60 years ago when they were new. My dad bought a new one on an H in 51, by 53 he figured he'd already done a lifetime of tyrod adjusting, thus he removed the wide front and went narrow front. When he bought the 300 in 55 he wouldn't even consider wide front, even though IH had changed it to tyrods behind axle by then.

The new wide fronts with tyrod behind axle were far superior to the old ones. In 25,000 hours of operation on my 560 and 656, I'll bet I didn't do as much tyrod adjustment as dad did in two years on that H.

Any tyrod out front, front end I've seen since was little more than scrap metal. No one would ever buy to use, maybe for show, but I still wouldn't pay more than scrap price, and that includes making a profit at the scrap dealer.

Brand new aftermarket wide fronts to fit the old tractors can still be purchased for around $800 to $900. You absolutely cannot buy a new original wide front, so that does make the original style more valuable.

The front end with the tie rods in front are worth more than the aftermarket front end or the one with the tie rods in the back, but only if it is not broken or welded. I've never purchased anything from ladyfarmer29, but I know she sells on this site too.

One exception that I know of if it is a working tractor. The wide front that came on my 200 won't turn around in 20 acres. The steering arm hits the main casting in the front opening and won't let it turn . It got replaced with a pedestal real quick. Anyone want a cheap one? LE
