I had the same problem with both my Super A and Super C and was able to repair both with just a new O-ring. The shaft on the first wasn't very worn and I was confident a new o-ring would do the trick as the old was was brittle, worn, and with grooves. The shaft on the second one was quite worn and I thought I would have to go the speedi-sleeve route but thought I didn't have much to lose with first just trying the o-ring and have found that that did the trick as well.

Bottom line from my perspective is try a new o-ring first and then go the speedi sleeve route if you still have problems.

I said o-ring because I think the seal was only on the earlier models, but I am by no means sure of that. If it does have the seal, then the machine shop is, of course, not necessary.

Many posts in the archives about this. Briefly, no it is neither difficult nor expensive. Remove the pump, disassemble, and replace the o-ring on the shaft that has the drive gear on it. If the shaft is deeply grooved, put on a speedi sleeve, available at any bearing/seal dealer, perhaps NAPA also. You will probably have to have the opening in the housing enlarged to accept the speedi sleeve -- precision operation best done by a machine shop. o-ring 0.25-$1.00, speedi sleeve 15-$25, machine shop $50-$75 or thereabouts.

You probably have a worn shaft where the seal in the pump contacts the shaft allowing hydraulic fluid into the engine. The pump will have to be pulled to do any repair. You may need a speedi- sleeve to cover the worn area on the shaft. Here's a parts breakdown on the pump. Hal
PS: Item No4 is the seal and No11 is the shaft that gets worn.
