Hey Folks! Started working on the MD again, (much to my wifes delight) couple problems. when the tractor idles it runs GREAT but at high idle she runs rough and smokes blueish whiteish smoke. BUT rev her up and put her in fifth gear and make he work she seems to come out it, the problem seem worse when she is cold or just idleing, my pressure at the pump will not go out of the red either at high idle. filters are new, and the injection pump and injectors are from a repuatable salvage yard . The old pump was putting diesel into the oil of the injection pump.

Matt,

1. Was it doing all the same things with the old pump?
2. The pump timing has to be set very carefully or these things will run rougn.

I'd check the pump pressure with a gauge you know is good. I had to go through several wrecking yard pumps before I finally got a good one.

Good luck,

Larry

Sounds like the motor could use a new set of rings. Valves are probly tired to. My gasser seams to run better under load and runs ruff at idle, it is a valve not opening when it should. under load there is not as much "slop"and it will run better, just what i have experianced. could be a nuber of things. white is water burning and could be a cracked head or a gasket. md's are famous for this as people don't wanna take the time to let them cool off after they have been run hard. I always let all my tractors run for 3 min to let them cool down. at the very least turn the gas off and let it run out (on gas models.... on md switch it back to gas and let her run out on gas or let it cool, at leat that is what i do and never had a heat related problume. white could also be diesel no firing like it should in a cold engine or when first switching to diesel from gas.
