My 424 diesel had alot of presure in the rear end pushing fluid out different places so i got a piece of 3/4 pipe about tree inches long and drilled holes in it and put steel wool in the inside of it and a end cap on the other end trying to make a breather, had it on and after a while there was fluid comeing out of it. Is there to much fluid in the rear end or presure valve stuck open or what. Need advice on how to get the rear end not to build up presure. Thanks brad

If this is the 3/4" plug at the RH rear, near the RH rockshaft lever, it isn't REAR END oil.

It's HYDRAULIC SYSTEM oil. The hydraulic reservoir/rockshaft housing sits on top of the rear end, and it's oil is SEPARATE of the rear end/transmission oil.

Are you losing ENGINE oil, and "gaining" hydraulic oil? If so, either the engine timing gear driven oil pump has a bad seal, and is taking in engine oil, or you may have a leak in the pump seal or suction piping that is taking in AIR, and "foaming" the oil.

Also, if the 3-point control valve is not set up right, or the auxillary implement valve (if used) is not returning to center, the pump will always be working against the relief valve, heating up the hydraulic oil.

Does the hydraulic system continuously "hum" or "buzz", like it's the relief valve is operating continuously?

I dont think it's engine oil. Its more of a grey looking substance. Like water got in the hydraulic oil. I caint hear the hydraulic sysytem hum or buzz. Thanks for your help

I do not know what might causw the pressure. All systems I know of are open to the atmosphere with a breather. I would argue with you on the use of steel wool as it is a sevier contaminant in a hydraulic/gear system of the worst kind. (I beileve in your intentions, not your material) Rolled up screen wire into a tight tube would be much safer.
Is the fluid yellowish and or chocolate colored? if so it may be water in the fluid that is expanding causing the pressure and discharge as it trys to boil in a moose like consistancy. Look in the on line parts manual for the breather, if it is there, maybe it needs cleaned, or replaced. Good luck, JimN
