I have the opportunity to purchase this unit. It through a rod through the block. It has a hydrostatic transmission. I am going to look at it over the weekend.

Can anyone tell me how to identify a D-188 versus a D-239? Where is the serial number located? Also, what should I look at on the hydrostatic transmission?

Thank you for your help.

Hi, I am familiar with D239 used in 684 and it is 4 cyl German built direct start Diesel with a Bosch injection pump. There are no glow plugs but has cold weather ether assist start.

Don't know D188, know D179 is 3 cyl version of D239.

Good luck
