Transmission oil heaters revisited

I just went through some back posts and read the thread on a transmission oil heater for an 806. IH didn't offer anything for those tractors but on the 5x88 series tractors they did and it's still available on the MX Magnum's as well as some of the Maxxum's. An MX Magnum holds over 50 gallons of hytran and has more cast iron in the rear end than in all of an 806 so if a heater will work on one of them it should work on an 806 if you can find one to fit. I think the key to making one work is going to be plugging it in right after you get done using the tractor when the oil is already warm so all it has to do is keep the oil warm and not warm everything up. With that said the 88 series tractors and newer with the powershift transmissions and wet clutches do not work well until they are warmed up so they offer the heater for them but I don't think there would be much to gain with a heater on an 806.

figure the cost of running a 1500watt heater, or even a 750watt heater all the time when u arent running the tractor, the bill is going to add up. I fugred people were talking about something u plug in a few hours ahead of use.

Typical oil heaters range from 100 to 450 Watts.

"Charring" the oil around the heater could be a problem with bigger heaters.

Did you check out the Phillips-Temro link in the other post?

sure did bob. They carry ALOT of heaters, OMG!!
I'm not the one originally interested in this subject, as my hydraulic system is about 3 gallons and warms up fairly quickly. I just dont like have to pick the implements up to get her going with the oil so cold. I block up the rear blade so it cant fall and so dad can turn it in order to get the snow blower out if im not home to run the tractor, but trying to keep my lift arm and dump cylinders rods retracted forces me to leave the loader down and it has to be raised a bit. I usually just raise it a few inches. It will be alot better in the summer. we are supposed to get 1-3 inches tom and 6-9 on tuesday, so I will be playing with her =) Sure wish I'd found a wider bucket by now, but ill just use the blade to push it into piles, the the bucket to move the piles to their proper locations, it should make for a fun old time!! 40mph winds tho, haha, gotta get my ski mask around.

Have used the trans heater for the IH Hydros in an 806. Remove the cover on the bottom of the clutch houseing that has the gear brake in in it. Carefully note position of the gears. There is room for the heater to go in. Drill & tap for heater. Have done several this way, helps a lot on the hyds in very cold weather. You are warming the oil in the area of the steering pump, where on the hydro you warmed the trans. area.
