Guys, I need some help. The wiring for the glow plugs on my 2424 diesel was gone when I bought the tractor. I"ve put new glow plugs in and am ready to wire them up. But, not sure how the wiring goes. There is an insulator on the end of each glow plug. Does the wire from the previous plug go under the insulator, then the wire to the next plug go outside of the insulator? (glow plugs in parallel?) Or do all the wires just hook up outside of the insulator? (glow plugs in series?). I can"t tell from the schematic....
Thanks in advance. I may need to post a picture or two to help explain what I"m talking about, we"ll see.

Larry

Hi folks, I'm trying to renovate an FU265 in France and was wondering how hot the glow plugs should get. They are wired in series as described above and the resistor/indicator glows red/orange. The plugs themselves are hot enough to evaporate diesel but do not glow. I measure 2.4V at the plugs. I've only been able to start the engine with easystart spray.

I'd appreciate any advice

Chris

My wiring was gone (and the plugs were shot) also.
The hotter plugs I put in required different wiring than stock. In my case, each plug got it"s own wire (not sure the gauge, but I used yellow connectors)that ran into one connector with one wire to a pushbutton starter switch. The other side of the switch goes directly to the battery. Works fine for me, but not sure what it will do with original plugs. Good Luck,

Dave

You are CORRECT about one wire going on each side of the ceramic insulator, but WRONG on what the circuit is called. The glow plug are in SERIES.

Power is applied to the back glow plug. The jumper to the next glow plug, #3 goes on the OTHER side of the insulator. Then, #2 is jumpered in the same manner, and then #1. The second jumper from #1 is fastened to ground, so the glow plugs are all in series.

Be SURE the dash-mounted glow indicator/resistor is in the circuit.

Here's my hard-working 424, still in it's work clothes...

Very good, I'll work on this over the weekend if it's not TOO cold. Sorry about the parallel series mix-up, that is a direct and predicable result of trying to think before that first cup of coffee hits the brain..... ..

Thanks for the help.

Larry

Larry,

Just hook 'em all together and tie to the feed.
