Ihave a 1941 M that in it's later years it's job was to run an auger transfering corn from the dry tank.It ran overnite unattended for years,Finnally sprung a leak in the radiator and it ran till it seized up. I got that M and took a 345 IH V8 out of a rusted out 1210 pickup and put in that M, It was a winter project but having put a 345 in a 560 the year before it was a lot easier. This was 3 winters ago. During the 560 refit I made 1/8in clear plastic drill template to locate the new holes in the rear engine support. The first winter after I loaned the template to guy around Joplin Mo. then it went to Indiana then eastern Ohio.Interesting that the M used the same template as the 560. I use my M, plowing . discing, just like my other tractors. I put a belt driven govenor from a massey combine on it and run it at 1800 rpm, Road speeds are about the same as my other M's as I run them at 1800 also.

You can figure torque using TQ = 5252 x HP/RPM. Max HP doesn't mean engines max TQ. I seem to recall a stock M made max TQ around 1000 rpm, give or take a few.

its not to hard to v8 an m. we built with a 700+ hp small block chevy and turned it 8000 rpms to pull with. did really well with no breakage. we did needle the diff. the stock m engine makes a whole lot more torque than the v8 in the given rpm range so if your going to farm with it i would probably fix the stocker or maybe swap in a 3.9 or a 5.9 cummins.

Iknew a guy who put a 350 Chevy into a Massy 44. He used a transmission ahead of the regular one to cut down the RPMs and he did a really nice job on it. It was only for play, not for work. I also saw on a Green Magazine, a chevy engine put in an A. You had to look twice to notice the difference. They even kept the hand clutch. I thinnk you can do whatever you want to do if you have enough money and time and skill. The thing you have to realize is that you won't have a work tractor, it will be toy to show the boys(or girls). If you slow a V8 down enough to to run at tractor speeds you will loose all the torque. Haave fun!!

Hi , I don't know from personal experience anything about it but there was some discussion last fall about it on here . Take this with a grain of salt but someone mentioned that the rear end would hold up to a small-block , I guess chevy or ford if the rpm's were limited . I would think that if it was de-tuned severely down to around a hundred horse or so it would work for a while if the rear end ( trany back ) was rebuilt to new specs or better . I don't know the torque rating for a stock M engine but my guess is that a small block puts out as much just over idle with 8 cylinders as the four does at full throttle . JMHO . Good luck with it ! It sounds like it would be fun!!! ...Randy

PS - I got a real healthy chevy engine with less than 1500 miles on it I'd sell for about $2500 with a six puck disk McCleod roller racing clutch , high nickle 4-bolt main block , scorpion roller rockers , world product 1.94 SR heads , hooker headers , holley truck avenger carb , moroso intake , polished cast aluminum M/T tall valve covers , polished and balanced crank , align bored , 9.5 - 1 compression , swirl polished valves and Rhoades lifters and pistons that I can't remember the name of with polished flat tops , It comes with a MSD billet ready to run distributor and your choice of a crane or jacobs ignition msd box both with rev control ( not installed yet ) and Blue max 9 mil plug wires . I put over $3500 in it about three years ago . Just lost interest since there's nowhere near me to go four wheeling and it's in a 75 chevy short box 4x4 , you get the truck for free ;) .

I've seen several V-8/M conversions. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a "kit".
