SMTA live power

So more questions about the SMTA since I'm a Farmall novice. Would a SMTA with live power have the same PTO setup as say a 300 or 400 with the tall lever on the left rear side of the oporators station to enguage the clutches? I'm thinking the SMTA in discussion (posted below) has nothing except a TA no live power or hydraulics; a real plane jane of sorts.

Thanks always for your help!!

So...it's possible to get a Super MTA without the TA ?

Or would that have been called just a Super M at that point?

No it was a Super MTA without the torque amplifier wing on the decal -- there are other differences between a SM and the non-TA MTA, they are not the same tractor.

Thanks to everyone for their help. This tractor only has a T/A. It does not have live power of live hydraulics.

Sitting on operators seat the ones without live PTO used a round rod that engaged and disengaged PTO using left hand. With live PTO long lever on right was used. If tractor came without live PTO and with a T/A there should be a R stamped in serial tag after serial number. If it came without hydraulics theres a few parts unique to those so with the right information you could probably tell if it was original.

Yes, the IPTO unit that bolts into the rear housing and most of the TA are the same between the 300 and 400. The SMTA and 400 are exactly the same.

Plain Jane? Good Grief!!!. I don't think power shifting, live hydrauliced, independent power take off option, and capacity for retrofitting a factory-made quick hitch falls into the fuddy-duddy class. IH earned the "new generation" label with the SMTA that John Deere co-opted half a decade later.

In general, tractors from the MTA through the 560 (and 300 through 460) could be had with or without TA, and also with or without a live PTO. That is, it could have a TA and live or transmission driven (dead) pto, or a dead pto and a TA, or no TA and a live pto. I have also read on this forum that it was possible to get a stage 2 Super H or M with a belly pump. I'm not going to get into this any further, as I'm no expert, and this was discussed in depth a couple of months ago.

I believe they are the same configuration. I also think the lever was different, but I am not sure. There were probably differences in internal parts due to the HP differences. The drive in the small frame tractors was also completely different. JimN
